The Prison Outreach Ministry is a volunteer-led community dedicated to easing the loneliness and isolation experienced by foreign prisoners in Japan. Many endure hardships due to language barriers and limited access to visitors, enduring cruel and inhumane treatment throughout their sentences.

This is an opportunity to make a profound difference in someone’s life, regardless of their past. Through the simple act of writing a letter, our volunteers offer a lifeline to many inmates, providing hope and connection in their challenging circumstances.

With over 50 dedicated volunteers currently reaching out to 70 inmates with many more currently on the waitlist, we need your help to support those in desperate need. Becoming a volunteer is simple – all you need is a pen and paper to start writing to an assigned inmate. Join us in making a difference – your support can brighten the lives of those who need it most. To gain insight into an inmate’s life, we invite you to watch a documentary about life in a Japanese prison
